S. Korea to end overseas adoptions as UN raises concerns over human rights abuses


South Korea announced plans Friday to end foreign adoptions over a five-year period, with a goal of zero by 2029, as U.N. investigators express “serious concerns” over decades of abuse. Many adoptees have been sent abroad with falsified records or suffered mistreatment, and critics say Seoul has failed to establish the truth, seek reparations or fully account for past violations.
