Riding Between Storms – BionicOldGuy

Our winter rains showed up in large numbers last Thursday. It rained all day so I rode inside on my trainer. It was surprisingly relaxing because I treated it like a meditation, rolling with my eyes closed, which is acceptable on a trainer. Since then, rain has been falling every now and then, and I’ve been sneaking in outdoor walks as best I can in my rain gear, which works well if it’s only raining lightly. I try to avoid heavier rain, as it can hurt to get hit in the face when you’re riding at a decent pace.

I was hoping for good weather last Tuesday as I led our group ride, hitting up our usual leader Kris while she was on the trip. We lucked out and had a pretty nice day for the ride, which climbed into the hills southwest of Morgan Hill and down to the Gilroy Sports Complex on good bike paths before returning. We got a little wet on the way back, but not too bad. Then Wednesday was cloudy and rainless, allowing me to have a longer and more challenging ride. We had a few showers during my commute yesterday, which cleared up later, and now we have 6 days of sunshine predicted. Overall it was a fun week riding and dodging raindrops. We got about four inches total in this series of storms, for about 5 1/2 total this season, a good early start.
