Rashford eyes more silverware after first trophy with Barcelona

The striker on loan from Manchester United came off the bench to help beat Real Madrid in the Super Cup final.
Barcelona striker Marcus Rashford hopes Sunday’s dramatic Spanish Super Cup win over Real Madrid will be the first of many trophies he wins with the Catalan club.
Rashford came off the bench in Barcelona’s 3-2 Clasico win in Jeddah to help win Spain’s first domestic trophy of the season.
The 28-year-old is on loan from Manchester United until the end of the campaign, with Barcelona holding an option to make the move permanent for around £25million this summer.
“I’m very happy today,” Rashford said during the post-match celebrations. “This is the first trophy [with Barça] and it’s always the best feeling to win first. I hope now we can win more. I hope it’s not the last.
“It was a great performance. This is what we are capable of doing. There are still areas to improve, but we can enjoy this moment today.”
Barcelona sporting director Deco has insisted no decision has yet been made regarding Rashford’s long-term future, although reports suggest the club are leaning towards triggering his option to buy.
Rashford has played 27 times in all competitions this season, starting 17 matches, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists from the left wing.
“It’s really good [being at the club]”, Rashford said. “When we win, it makes things a lot easier. Throughout the season, even in times when we haven’t played very well, we stay united and act as a team. For me it’s perfect and I really enjoy my stay here.
Introduced on the bench in place of Raphinha, author of two goals, Rashford almost added a fourth goal late in the match, but dragged his effort wide.
“Almost, but [I had] no energy in the legs,” he joked. “I was close, but that’s the message, come and create actions, try to score goals. In the final moments we could and should score.
Raphinha had opened the scoring before a frantic spell of first-half stoppage time saw three goals shared between the teams, leaving the match level at 2-2 at the break.
Vinicius Junior equalized with a brilliant solo effort, Robert Lewandowski briefly restored Barcelona’s lead and Gonzalo Garcia ensured parity before the break.
Kylian Mbappe returned from injury as a second-half substitute, but it was Raphinha who had the big moment with his second goal of the match.
