A popular UFO reporting app has made waves after apparently recording tens of thousands of mysterious underwater objects along the coast of the United States, raising eyebrows and leaving experts with more questions than answers regarding their origin.
Enigma, a nonpartisan organization that has its “largest searchable historical sighting database for global UFO sightings,” has recorded approximately 30,000 UFO sightings since its launch in 2022, according to the company’s website.
However, users have turned their attention away from the sky in search of evidence that life may exist elsewhere.
Since August, Enigma has documented more than 9,000 sightings of mysterious objects within 10 miles of U.S. coastlines or other major bodies of water, Marine Technology News reported.

Unidentified submersible objects (USO) are defined as “any object detected underwater that cannot be immediately identified or explained,” according to the media outlet.
USOs can be observed both through technological sensors and with the naked eye – with witnesses often describing them as moving at incredibly fast speeds, making precise changes in direction, and possessing “trans-medium” capabilities by seamlessly transitioning between water and air.
“What really interests me are the reports we receive on [United States] underwater ships “Detecting craft moving at exceptionally high speeds underwater,” Kent Heckenlively, author of “Catastrophic Disclosure: Aliens, The Deep State and The Truth,” told Fox News Digital.

Of the 9,000 sightings reported since August 2025, about 500 have occurred within 5 miles of a coastline, according to Marine Technology News.
In addition, more than 150 objects were reportedly seen either hovering over bodies of water or moving in and out of them.
The two states with the highest coastal populations – California and Florida – top the rankings for the most USO sightings, according to the Enigma website. California accounts for 389 reported sightings, with the Sunshine State coming in second with 306 reports.
The data also shows several clusters of activity centered around specific coastal points across the country, raising eyebrows among experts and government officials who fear the objects pose a national security risk.

One of Enigma’s most compelling accounts concerns two unknown luminous objects observed underwater from a boat, according to Marine Technology News. (iStock)
“It appears there are five or six areas where there is very high UFO activity around the water,” Heckenlively said. “That would make a lot of sense, and I think the problem that ordinary people face is that they think, ‘Okay, if these things are real, how could they come to earth and hide?’ And the ocean seems like a great place to hide.”
This sentiment is shared by retired Navy Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, who previously argued that video sequence released by the Pentagon shows technology that “endangers U.S. maritime security, already weakened by our relative ignorance of the global ocean.”
“The fact that unidentified objects with inexplicable characteristics enter American aquatic space and the [Department of War] “The failure to raise a giant red flag is a sign that the government is not sharing everything it knows about abnormal phenomena across the board,” Gallaudet wrote in a report released last year.

The 2019 video shows an unidentified object passing the Navy ship USS Omaha, before plunging into the Pacific Ocean without a trace.
“Pilots, credible observers, and calibrated military instruments have recorded objects accelerating to speeds and crossing the air-sea interface in ways impossible for anything made by humans,” Gallaudet wrote.
Among the various testimonies compiled by Enigma, one of the most convincing shows two mysterious underwater objects lighting up underwater, according to Marine Technology News.
Enigma and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
However, years of public skepticism led to applications such as Enigma crowdsourced data regarding UFOs, which Heckenlively sees as a positive step toward transparency between the United States government and citizens seeking answers.
“I’m skeptical of the alien stuff,” Heckenlively said. “But I am convinced that the government is lying to us.”

In what has historically remained a subject shrouded in secrecy, Heckenlively hopes that having UFO discoveries made public by nongovernmental organizations can pressure officials to prioritize transparency when it comes to national security.
“What is the best disinfectant against corruption? Sunlight,” Heckenlively told Fox News Digital. “So let’s throw as much sunlight on this as possible and see what happens.”
