Rangers 0 – 1 Genk

Former Celtic striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh returned to Glasgow to haunt the rangers of 10 men when he scored the only goal of Genk’s victory at League 1-0 Europa from Genk to Ibrox.
The South Korea international recorded a penalty in the first half, struck the winner after 55 minutes and later, he was far from his game after having moved out of the offside.
The Rangers – who had expressed Mohamed Diomande after 41 minutes – did not gather a shot on the target after the 34th minute and was hook when the final whistle was blown.
The result increases the pressure on Russell Martin, whose team won four of his first 14 games in all competitions this quarter.
Genk was those who asked questions for a large part of the first half at Ibrox, with Zakaria El Ouahdi proving a thorn next to Jayden Meghoma on the right. Oh flashed his connection on a dangerous right bullet on the bar from six meters; Patrik Hrosovky hit the post at a similar distance shortly after.
That said, the Rangers could have been in advance if it had not been an incredible Genk Captain goal line authorization to hang the goal of John Souttar.
The Rangers then called on a penalty when a head of James Tavernier hit the tense arm of Joris Kayembe, but after being sent to the Var screen, referee Matej Jug supported his decision of any penalty, due to an apparent Tavernier push on Kayembe.
In three minutes, the hosts were reduced to 10 men. The tackle of Diomande caught El Ouahdi over the ankle and a right red card has been shown. He lingered by the tunnel, hoping for a Var intervention, but it did not come.
To complete the drama in the first half, Genk received a penalty after a second Var review, Tavernier having cut Yaimar Medina while he cut in the box on the left. Oh avoided Butland’s gaze when he was preparing to kick, but the former goalkeeper of England made a wide stop to deny him.
But Oh finally scored the goal he hoped for at the start of the second half. The Brilliant Ball of Jarne Steuckers found him completely unmarked and was able to finish clinically under pressure.
He typed in a second with 20 minutes to play, which was quickly excluded, but in the end, only one was sufficient.
Martin: Card Rouge has changed the game – but we will grow up after this evening
Rangers head coach Russell Martin Speaking during his post-match press conference:
On his future:
“I don’t think that a game where we are at 10 men for this long change things a lot.
“I only feel support.”
And talk to TNT SPORTS::
On performance::
“I think it was difficult because we have been at 10 men for so long. We had a good control in the first piece of the game, then had a difficult spell where we had to defend a little because we were not good enough or cleaning enough with the ball. We traveled this, then Dio is sent and it changes the game.
“I thought the guys were a good half.
“But they stayed there. I am proud of this second half. Playing with 10 men for so long against a decent team is not easy, so that’s what it is.
How far the rangers are things by clicking::
“Not far away – and I think we will learn and grow tonight. I think they have done well with 10 men for a long time to play.
“As much as it was good proofs for us last Saturday, on the right feeling they had after the match, there will be stuff this evening and tomorrow which is really clear for the players, so there will be a lot of learning tonight.”
On the frustration of rangers fans::
“I have said so many times before, the only thing that will have an impact that wins football matches.
“Inside the building, they were incredible. The process, the staff players, so we must continue to focus on this, so the result will eventually be positive and I hope it will eventually turn supporters and their feelings.”
Boyd: Rangers have no choice but to start a new research as a manager
Ancient Rangers striker Kris Boyd on Sky Sports News:
“Andrew Cavenagh, the president of the Rangers, was in Ibrox this evening, and with the choir of hoots at the end of the fans who were still there, he will now understand what has been going on for several weeks.
“He knew rangers playing in Europe and saw and heard what European nights can be in Ibrox and on the road, but tonight, he must be seated if it is what he wants as president of the Rangers because it seems that there is a whole disconnection of the club.
“Fans have completely finished, they feel like it’s time anyway.
“I think Patrick Stewart [Rangers CEO] will also have a lot of questions to answer now. Fans of the Rangers have already shot him with the demonstrations this weekend and now the Rangers enter a period when the next three games are far from their home and it will not be easier.
“Many rangers fans expected [Russell Martin’s sacking] Be after the Hearts game because of the negativity that was there.
“The Rangers supported their manager and, because this is the start of a new project, you do not want to seem to give up immediately, but looking at him for the moment, there is no other option than starting not only looking for a new manager, but I think recruitment needs an overhaul at Rangers.
“Again, I cannot sit here and criticize the recruitment teams that have been there in the past, then watch this one and let them get away because the number of players who have crossed the door.
“Youssef Chermiti also had the opportunity this evening. I know that the rangers go down to 10 men and it becomes difficult for him in the second half, but I have never seen anything in the first half that will excite me. When you report this type of player, they have to enter, they have to make a difference and you do not occur for the Rangers.
“It is the one who is the big transfer fee, he will wear that, but there are others in this team of rangers who seem to be absolute miles where they must be successful
“In the end, the director of the Rangers, Russell Martin, will be the one who will eventually pay the price, but for me, there are other people at the football club who must also be responsible because at the moment, the disconnection of the stands on the field and beyond is as bad as ever.”
Souttar: frustrated players, just like fans
John Souttar des Rangers talk to TNT SPORTS::
“Fruusting night. I thought we started the game fairly well, we had a few chances. The shipment looks difficult. The second half, we tried to play high, tried to get a few chances and we had a few, but it’s frustrating.
“If I knew what’s wrong, I would do my best to help him. It’s many things. It is difficult to analyze it right after the match, so it is difficult for me to answer this.
“When we get a goal very early here, it raises the whole crowd. And if we don’t get it, it’s difficult.
“I understand the frustrations; it’s exactly the same thing.
