The announcement was made during a press conference in which Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that the District Attorney’s Office had made decisive progress in the case.
During the briefing, McDonnell said, according to The Hollywood Reporterthat the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office “formally filed charges against Mr. Reiner for the murder of his parents.”

Authorities said Nick was arrested Sunday at Exposition Park in Los Angeles and apprehended without incident. He is currently being held without bail as court proceedings move forward. Hochman confirmed that the formal filing of charges would take place later Tuesday and noted that his office had not yet decided whether to pursue the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A Brentwood resident told The Blast she received a notification around 5:50 p.m. from an emergency chat group warning of a possible “active shooter” in the area. Helicopters flew overhead as rumors spread that “two people” had been found dead in a nearby house.
