Prosecutors detail serious charges against Nick Reiner

Nick is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of his parents inside their Los Angeles home.

The announcement was made during a press conference in which Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that the District Attorney’s Office had made decisive progress in the case.

During the briefing, McDonnell said, according to The Hollywood Reporterthat the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office “formally filed charges against Mr. Reiner for the murder of his parents.”

He described the severity of the situation and acknowledged the emotional toll it caused beyond just the Reiner family.

“This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family and their loved ones, but for our entire city. We offer our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy,” McDonnell said.

Authorities said Nick was arrested Sunday at Exposition Park in Los Angeles and apprehended without incident. He is currently being held without bail as court proceedings move forward. Officials said once Nick is medically cleared for transport, he will be formally arraigned and given the opportunity to plead guilty.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman also addressed the case, offering additional details on the seriousness of the charges. Hochman said Nick will face “first-degree murder charges with special circumstances” related to multiple victims.

He further explained that prosecutors added an allegation. He said Nick “faces a particular allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, namely a knife”.

Hochman confirmed that the formal filing of charges would take place later Tuesday and noted that his office had not yet decided whether to pursue the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
