Polestar, according to The original mission statement is an electric premium brand that puts performance and design at the base. To which we could also add “it’s not Tesla” as an increasingly powerful sales argument.
The new boss Michael Lohscheller, to our knowledge, never agitated a chainsaw during a meeting, but he certainly favors efficiency and the commercial uprising – and he needs it.
Polestar sold 44,851 cars worldwide last year, a decrease of 15% against 2023, but retail sales increased by 76% in the first quarter this year (from relatively small volumes), reinforced by the arrival of 3 and 4 – and the monumental Elon.
The fact remains, however, that, although the gross margin of the brand is now fortunately passed from negative to positive, Polestar has always lost $ 190 million so far this year, while obtaining a credit of $ 1.7 billion since the end of last year. The 4 is here as part of the plan to reverse these fortunes, and as this model is not made in China, it can turn to us American consumers.
The 4 bear the printer of the rigorous philosophy of the design of Polestar.
