POCSO court denies cricketer Yash Dayal bail

Royal Challengers Bengaluru fast bowler Yash Dayal’s anticipatory bail application has been rejected by a POCSO court in Jaipur. He is involved in an ongoing sexual assault case.
Justice Alka Bansal of the Jaipur Metropolitan Court passed the order. The documents submitted to the court did not provide sufficient evidence that the cricketer had been wrongly accused. The judge said the investigation suggested possible involvement and therefore bail could not be granted at this stage.
Initial complaint
Earlier, an FIR was registered at Sanganer Sadar police station in Jaipur. A minor had alleged that Dayal befriended her by promising his support in her cricketing ambitions and then subjected her to repeated sexual assault and blackmail over a period of more than two years. According to the complaint, the alleged incidents took place at several locations, including hotels in Jaipur and Kanpur.
Investigators use digital evidence from the complainant’s phone, including chats, photos and videos. They also check call records and hotel reservation details.
Dayal’s defense
During the hearing, Dayal’s lawyer claimed that Dayal met the girl only in public places. They said the girl said she was an adult and had accepted money from Dayal due to financial problems. Later, she asked for more.
However, the court did not accept these arguments and rejected Dayal’s anticipatory bail application.
Plea for bail
In his plea, Dayal claimed that he was wrongly accused and the case was filed to harass him and extract money from him. He told the court he had always respected the law, remained committed to his cricket career and was prepared to cooperate fully with the investigation.
On the other hand, government lawyer Rachna Maan, appearing for the prosecution, argued that the accused took advantage of the minor girl by making false promises about helping her in her cricket career. She reminded the court that, legally, any consent given by a minor is not valid.
