Karachi: A key meeting took place on Thursday at the Sindh investment department office to discuss a proposed infrastructure project aimed at connecting the port of Karachi to Shahrah-E-Bhutto (Malir Expressway) via the Qayyumabad interchange.

The meeting was followed by the Minister of Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and a special assistant to the chief Minister Sindh on investment and public-private partnership Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar.

The officials stressed that the distance between the port of Karachi to the Qayyumabad interchange is approximately 12 kilometers. Qamar noted that the new route would facilitate the more fluid movement of the circulation of heavy cargoes from the port of Karachi, which allows it to access the M-9 Super Highway without entering the city’s congestioned roads.

Charthry approved the project, calling it both important and practical. He ensured full cooperation of the federal government to ensure its feasibility. “The implementation of this project will facilitate the burden of intense circulation on the roads of the city and will improve the flow of global traffic,” added Qamar.

During information, the officials noted that the total Public-Private Partnership Portfolio of Sindh (PPP) had reached 616 billion rupees, all projects have so far declared success. It was agreed that a joint meeting between the Sindh government and the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) will be organized soon to move forward with the feasibility of the proposed link.

The meeting also explored the potential of a logistics park to accommodate heavy vehicles linked to the port and a project to unsubscribe from seawater for industrial use near the managers of Port Qasim.Senior, in particular the secretary Investment Sindh Raja Khurram Shahzad and the Director General of the PPP Unit asad Zamin, were also present.
