This message contains spoilers For the premiere of season 2 of “Peacemaker”.
After more than three years of anticipation, season 2 of “Peacemaker” by James Gunn finally returned with revenge. The series, which features John Cena as a holder anti-hero, is larger and more daring than ever, now that it is officially part of the newly established DCU barrel. The first season was produced under the previous regime, when the extended DC universe was still underway, with explicit links with this now disappeared universe, including an appearance by justice League, with pieces speaking for Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and the Flash (Ezra Miller). Now, with Gunn and Peter Safran as co-PDG of DC Studios, this appearance of justice League, as well as some other elements selected of the first season, is not canon in the new DCU.
James Gunn previously announced that some DCEU characters will be canonized in the new DCU, including Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who recently appeared in “Creature Commandos” and Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle (Xolo Maridueña). Regarding other DCEU alumni, Jason Momoa will make his debut as Lobo in the next “Supergirl”, and Gunn expressed his interest in having Henry Cavill as part of the DCU as a non-subuperman character. However, with regard to the former DCEU, there is probably an actor who is almost guaranteed not To come back, given that he is subject to a sneaky dissol for season 2 of “Peacemaker”.
The joke is on you, Jared Leto!
Season 2 of “Peacemaker” starts with “Chapter 1: Links that grind”. After his failed interview with Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Guy Gardner / Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Peacemaker reconnects with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), with romantic tensions palpable. Harcourt returns from an appointment with a therapist, and she emerges from her car with a bloody hand, due to her frustration of her dashboard.
After noticing his hand, Peacemaker thought about the last time he was in Harcourt’s car, saying that he was playing spinal or 30 seconds in March. Confused by the description, Harcourt retorts: “I am not on good terms with 30 seconds in Mars. How do you dare?” This moment is extended in the post-key scene of the episode, in which Harcourt exclaims: “I cannot move the doctors of Spin with 30 seconds in Mars. Spin Doctors is so good!” Peacemaker responds hilarious: “Yeah, Jesus, who is better than 30 seconds in March. This garage group in which I was doing for two seconds is better than 30 seconds in Mars!”
For the uninitiated, 30 seconds in Mars is an American alternative rock group which presents Jared Leto as a main singer (his brother, Shannon Leto, plays the battery). Jared Leto also played the Joker in the DCEU, especially in “Suicide Squad” by David Ayer and played a small role in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”. Although the initial casting of Leto as a joker has brought a certain excitement among the fans given his acclaimed performances in films such as “Requiem for a Dream” and his Oscar -winning role in “Dallas Buyers Club”, his representation as a joker was largely confronted by critics and fans. In addition to his small role in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, Leto’s Joker is only mentioned in “Birds of Prey”, where his relationship with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) occurs off screen. He is also indirectly referenced in “The Suicide Squad”, when Harley Monologues on his bad taste in men after having shot the general president Silvio Luna (Juan Diego Botto).
James Gunn alluded to his disapproval of Jared Leto in the past
James Gunn has a story of dissolution of Jared Leto in the past. In 2018, actor Dylan Sprouse tweeted directly in Leto, the hold -up about “slip into the DMs of each female model aged 18 to 25”. Gunn answered Sprouse: “Is he starting at 18 on the internet?” This tweet interaction implies that the alleged behavior alleged from Leto towards women is a police secret within the industry and suggests that Gunn seems to believe allegations. Leto was again accused in June and his representatives denied complaints against him.
It remains to be seen if Gunn plans to implement additional elements of the previous DCEU in the DCU. Season 2 of “Peacemaker” will probably address more elements of previous continuity and explicitly established them as Canon, despite its production under the previous regime. However, on the basis of these Disss against 30 seconds in Mars, it is prudent to say that the joker of Jared Leto will not be involved in any capacity. The jury explained itself whether or not we will see Margot Robbie coming back as Harley Quinn, but at the very least, Gunn holds Robbie in high esteem, having worked with her in “The Suicide Squad” and giving her one of the best action sequences of his entire career.
The remaining seven episodes of season 2 of “Peacemaker” will disappear every Thursday, exclusively on HBO Max.
