Paul Finebaum issues a severe evaluation of Sam Pittman dismissed in the middle of a major overhaul at Arkansas

American sports analyst Paul Finebaum offered a critical assessment on the former Arkansas coach, Sam Pittman, after being dismissed by the team following a disappointing mandate of six seasons in Fayetteville.

The famous sports columnist expressed his conviction that the 63-year-old tactician will never be hired as a head coach despite the atmosphere of well-being during his work as a Razorbacks coach.

“He has never been head coach. He will never be a head coach again,” said Finebaum when he appeared on “Mcelroy and Cubelic in the morning”. “He had the time of his life. Everyone loves him. He loves work. And, by the way, he extended his stay. It didn’t work, but he gave a shot, and I can’t blame him.”

He thought that Pittman had been forced to acquire the former Arkansas coach and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, who was then appointed interim coach.

Petrino will have another chance on the work of coach of the Razorbacks after being dismissed in 2012 due to a controversy with a former student-athlete development coordinator who was discovered when they were involved in a motorcycle accident.

The four -star secondary stops at Arkansas after Sam Pittman fired

The ouster of Sam Pittman has a residual effect on the future of Arkansas after a very considered commitment decided to withdraw to play with the Razorbacks next season.

The four -star secondary, JJ Bush, announced that he was moving from Arkansas a few hours after the Pittman shots were made public. Bush, a 3 -foot 3 -inch and 205 pound defender, was presented as the best -classified recruit in the program recruitment class in 2026, by recruiting analyst Recruiting Hayes Fawcett.

The Alabama native is classified as the 15th best secondary in the 2025 promotion and Pittman obtained his commitment on July 2.

Pittman experienced a disappointing passage in Fayetteville, where he went 32-34 in six seasons. His best performance as a coach was in 2021 when he guided the razorbacks to a 9-4 file, on the way to win the Outback Bowl.

The Arkansas had a promising start to the season, winning the Alabama A&M and the Arkansas State with a pair of 50 points. However, the razorbacks returned to earth with losses against Ole Miss, Memphis and Notre Dame, forcing the hand of the athletics department to release the veteran coach.
