Parvez Rasool, Jammu and Kashmir’s first international cricketer, announces his retirement

He will always be remembered for being a pioneer of Jammu and Kashmir cricket. In 2014, he created history by becoming the first player from his state to represent India in international cricket.

“When we started playing, not many people took Jammu and Kashmir cricket seriously. But we beat some of the big teams and also did well in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI-affiliated tournaments. I have led the team for quite a long period and it gives me immense satisfaction to have contributed a little to the team’s success,” Rasool told Sportstar.

The illustrious career of Parvez Rasool:

While Parvez Rasool was able to play only two limited-overs matches for India, he enjoyed an illustrious career in the domestic circuit. He won the prestigious Lala Amarnath Trophy for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice: in 2013/14 and 2017/18.

He won the trophy for the first time after finishing the season with an impressive tally of 594 runs and 33 wickets. Every time I represented my team, my goal was to ensure that we were victorious – Parvez Rasool

“Whenever I represented my team, my aim was to ensure that we were victorious. Of course, sometimes the results did not go our way, but I tried my best to give the best of my abilities for J&K,” Rasool said.

“Now that I have some free time, I was looking at the numbers, and they are not that bad at all. I got quite a few players of the match in IPL and those performances were special too…,” he added.

With his playing career over, Rasool is now keen to make an impact as a coach. He recently completed the Level II Coaching Certificate from the BCCI Center of Excellence and is keen to become a full-time coach.
