Indian cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s wedding celebrations were dramatically disrupted on Sunday after a double health scare involving her father and fiancé in Sangli. The ceremony, which was scheduled to take place in the afternoon, was postponed indefinitely when Mandhana’s father Srinivas Mandhana developed symptoms of chest pain resembling a heart attack at the venue.An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and he was admitted to a local hospital shortly after. This sudden emergency brought the festivities to a complete halt, with Smriti refusing to continue in her father’s absence. Doctors later confirmed that he was suffering from symptoms of angina, a condition associated with coronary artery disease.

“He suffered angina around 1:30 p.m. and was admitted to our hospital at 2:15 p.m. He is currently in the intensive care unit… we will conduct further tests on Monday before deciding whether an angiogram is necessary,” said Naman Shah, neurophysician and president of Sarvhit Hospital and Clinical Research Centre. An ECG revealed no new alarming findings, but his blood pressure remained elevated, prompting continued observation. Cardiologist Rohit Thanedar also examined him.While the family was still coming to terms with the situation, another health problem arose. According to an NDTV report, Smriti’s fiancé, musician Palash Muchhal, was also taken to a private hospital after his condition deteriorated due to viral infection and increased acidity. His problem was not considered serious and he was released shortly after receiving treatment, returning to the hotel that evening.The couple’s wedding, one of the most anticipated events in Indian sports this year, will now be postponed once the family’s medical situation stabilizes. For now, both families are prioritizing recovery, and doctors are expected to re-evaluate Srinivas Mandhana’s condition on Monday before determining further treatment.
