OPENAI announces a massive partnership in the United States government

OPENAI is a partnership with the American government to put its main border models available to federal employees. Under the agreement, federal agencies can access OPENAI models for $ 1 for next year, according to an announcement on Wednesday of the Company and General Services Administration (GSA).
The partnership is the culmination of months of effort on the part of the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman and other Openai leaders, who have put themselves up to the Trump administration since President Donald Trump took over the White House in January.
Since at least May of this year, high -ranking employees have met the General Services Administration and other government agencies, such as Food and Drug Administration, to promote business tools, according to documents obtained by Wired.
On July 23, Brad Lightcap, Openai Operation Head, and other Openai leaders, were invited to a private party organized by the Hill and Valley Forum in Washington, DC. A number of government employees involved in various AI policy efforts, including Doge Associates Akash Bobba and Edward Coursh Course, also appeared on the list of invitations, according to an invitation obtained by Wired.
It is not known if Lightcap attended the festivities. Alexandr Wang, chief of the meta superintelligence laboratories, and representatives of Palantir have also been invited.
On Tuesday, the GSA announced that it added three new IA models – Claude d’Anthropic, Google’s Gemini and Openai’s Chatgpt – to its federal purchasing list, opening the door to government agencies to use these tools. This decision was made as an action plan for Trump AI, which called for accelerating AI innovation in the United States.
On the same day, Openai launched two open models – the first version of this type of the company since 2019. The models can be executed locally and personalized for specific use cases, potentially allowing OPENAI to associate with government agencies which require high levels of data security.
Under Elon Musk, the so-called Ministry of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) has accelerated the efforts of the government, including by launching an AI chatbot called GSAI. In the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a DOGE agent used AI tools to rewrite agency regulations.
OPENAI did not immediately respond to a comment request by Wired. The GSA did not respond to the file before the publication.
AI American giants have shown growing interest in working with the US government in recent months. Shortly after the inauguration of Trump, the president announced a new OpenAi data center infrastructure project called Stargate. Altman stood next to the president when he announced the new company at the White House. In May, Altman and other AI leaders also accompanied Trump on a trip to the Middle East, where they announced a certain number of commercial transactions apparently designed to pursue the interests of American foreign policy.
Government agencies have enormous amounts of data that could potentially be precious for AI companies. (OPENAI says that Chatgpt will not use interactions with federal employees as well as training data.) American government services that seek to modernize their operations can see generative AI as a means of upgrading systems and improving efficiency. Agencies like the Ministry of Defense are also enormous potential customers. The budget proposed by Trump for the Ministry of Defense for Fiscount 2026 is 1.01 Billion of dollars, an increase of 13.4%.
