Newly released video shows the aftermath of a violent takeover of a neighborhood street that ended with the burning of a car and the beating of a couple in what authorities are calling a “planned attack” in New York City over the weekend.
The incident broke out around 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a large group of drivers descended on South Drive and 141st Street in Malba, a neighborhood in Queens, according to the New York Police Department.
The vehicles were seen speeding across residential lawns and doing donuts in the street as the scene turned chaotic, according to video shared by City Councilor Vickie Paladino, who represents the neighborhood.
As the events unfolded, Larry Rusch, a private security guard who lives in the neighborhood, heard the commotion outside his home and went outside to find about 40 vehicles speeding down the street, according to The New York Post.

In an attempt to defuse the situation, Rusch allegedly parked one of his vehicles at the intersection to try to prevent drivers from causing further damage.
“As soon as I did that, everyone started leaving,” Rusch told the Post. “Then two individuals approached the car. Somehow they set off some sort of fireworks or something and lit the car on fire. Then the melee started again.”

Additionally, a local resident, Blake Ferrer, was injured while trying to defend his property from a group of rowdy drivers, The Post reported.
“When I came out, I said, ‘Brother, you need to get this damn thing off my property,'” Ferrer told the outlet. “And that’s when it all started.”
The crowd reportedly turned its attention to Ferrer, with additional footage showing a group of individuals allegedly attacking the homeowner and his wife, leaving the man with a broken nose, shoulder and ribs.

A third resident also had items thrown into his car during the incident, the Post reported.
“[The community] has been plagued the last couple of years with home invasions, burglaries, car thefts and just these smart guys, which the whole city has been plagued with,” Paladino told “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning.
As the sun rose on Sunday morning, the consequences of the attack on the middle-class neighborhood became even more visible.

In a video shared by Paladino on social media, the councilwoman can be seen standing alongside Rusch as she pointed out skid marks on the roadway and her burned vehicle with its windows blown out.
Paladino also reportedly spoke to several residents who were injured in the melee or had their property destroyed.
“Last night at 12:30 a.m., about 100 animals came down to this neighborhood,” Paladino said. “Walk around and you’ll see the skid marks. But most important of all, I want you to take a look at this car. They actually set a car on fire, they terrorized this neighborhood.”

In a previous statement, Paladino blasted the NYPD’s response time to the scene, adding that residents who called 911 to report the incident were told that a “quality of life team and 311 should handle the situation.”
However, the New York Police Department said in a statement to Fox News Digital that although the officer who initially responded was redirected to a more serious call, once authorities learned the incident had been upgraded to a higher priority, an officer was quickly dispatched to the scene.
“THE [precinct] covers a large geographic area, and it was a busy Saturday evening,” an NYPD spokesperson said in a statement. “At the time of the incident in question, other NYPD units [precinct] “We were handling several priority tasks, including the arrest of a person who was driving while intoxicated, the transport of a person to the hospital, an assault and a vehicle collision with injuries.”
Following the incident, the NYPD plans to increase patrols in the area to “ensure this does not happen again,” the department said.

However, Paladino expressed concerns about the lack of accountability within the city regarding similar cases, adding, “These incidents are happening all over the city, and they’re happening because there are no longer any real consequences to this type of crime.”
“It was a planned attack,” Paladino said on “Fox & Friends.” “All of this was anticipated. They were prepared to do exactly what they did.”
