NFL fans accuse Troy Aikman of ‘trying to make excuses’ for Brock Purdy’s horrible 3-INT game while criticizing Caleb Williams ‘for winning’

Brock Purdy’s San Francisco 49ers defeated the Carolina Panthers 20-9 in Week 12 on Monday night. However, 49ers quarterback Purdy didn’t have his best game as he completed 23 of 32 passes for 193 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Although Purdy threw three interceptions in the first half, ESPN announcer Troy Aikman appeared to defend the San Francisco QB during the call for the MNF contest. It didn’t take long for fans to criticize Aikman for his apparent bias toward Purdy, amid his recent criticism of Caleb Williams, who led the Chicago Bears to the top of the AFC North.
Thanks for the submission!
“I know it’s not Troy Aikman making all these excuses for Brock Purdy… who has 3 interceptions in the first half,” one tweeted.

“Brock Purdy threw not one, not two, but THREE picks in 30 minutes and somehow Troy Aikman was harder on Caleb for WINning a game,” added another.
“Caleb Williams throws a td screen pass… Troy Aikman: ‘Pure luck.’ Brock Purdy throws his third play of the half… Troy Aikman: “It’s not his fault,” commented a third.
Here are some more reactions.
“Troy Aikman really likes Brock Purdy apparently. 3 INTS and he went to defend him on the 3. He could never talk about Caleb,” one wrote.
“If Caleb Williams had thrown the pick Brock Purdy just made, you’d know Troy Aikman wouldn’t be as generous,” added another.
“Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are making up every reason not to blame Brock Purdy for throwing his third interception,” one user tweeted.
Aikman has often criticized Williams this season, despite the Bears QB leading his team to the top of the AFC North. Some fans also pointed out that the ESPN commentator often exaggerates in his criticism of Williams.
Williams went 19 of 35 for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Chicago Bears to a 31-28 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12 on Sunday. Chicago is now 8-3 and on a four-game winning streak.
Brock Purdy’s 49ers will face the Cleveland Browns in Week 13 of the 2025 NFL season.

The 49ers (8-4) will face the Cleveland Browns (3-8) in Week 13 on Sunday. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. ET from Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
San Francisco is third in the AFC West, but still in contention for the division title. The 49ers will want to build on their two-game winning streak when they travel to Cleveland.
The Browns, on the other hand, are all but out of the playoff race. They will start rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders against San Francisco on Sunday.
