The citizens of New Jersey can flash their driving license from their smartphones after Governor Phil Murphy signed a digital identification measure, joining the ranks to do so. The law also authorizes non -conductive digital identification cards for those who do not have a driver’s license.
The bill also devotes confidentiality and security protocols for those who use digital IDs, including guarantees to prevent unauthorized access to underlying data. He describes the protections when using them, prohibiting entities from asking users to put their devices when presenting the digital ID. The bill specifies that the presentation of a digital ID does not imply the consent of research or access to any other data on the device.

Participation in the program is voluntary, therefore those who wish to continue to use their physical identifiers can do so. The state has put aside $ 1.5 million for the launch of the program. It is not clear if these digital IDs will be compatible with and, or if the New Jersey intends to create its own digital identification application like others.
