MoviePass launches the Paris Office Platform Unfortunately linked to the Crypto

MoviePass, the service known for the unbearable plan to allow people to see unlimited films in theaters for monthly costs, launches a new fantastic sporting style platform for moviegoers. Unfortunately, it is linked to the blockchain as part of the continuous passage of the company in the web3 space.

The platform, called Mogul, launched Thursday as part of a collaboration between Moviepass and Mysten Labs. MoviePass describes it as a “competitive entertainment experience” which will allow fans to participate in fantastic tournaments, in mind clashes This includes a rating based on public attendance, criticism scores, award victories and other markers of success.

If you are a listener of the Big Picture podcast, they play games similar to it regularly, although it is only a competition between the hosts. There have also been games that try to draw on similar energy, such as the Hollywood Stock Exchange, which allowed users to buy and sell betting on actors, directors and films as if they were negotiating actions in a company.

Moviepass exploits this energy, and it seems that they have at least many interested people. The company claims to have 400,000 on the waiting list with early access. Once they are and the launch of games, Mogul users will compete to win “digital collectibles”, a virtual currency and awards. There will also be a ranking to compete with friends and other players.

The CEO of Moviepass, Stacy Spikes, said in a statement that Mogul’s objective was “to activate a new generation of fans who are not only watching films but which influence the culture and the economy that surround them”. Which one, sure? I guess? Children really make a number in theaters right now during A minecraft film Projections, which probably count as influencing culture and economy. They forced Warner Bros. Create “rowdy” versions of projections so that people can be as noisy and exuberant as they wish, so that’s something.

But the web aspect makes it feel a little fragile. If you join the blockchain as a platform of the future, it may be super promising. But it seems that it is very little via web3 for Moviepass which cannot be done elsewhere. The company’s platform is currently based on web3 for virtual currency, which can be used to buy monthly plans, and allows people to do things like looking at announcements in exchange for credits that are deposited in their virtual wallets. Again, nothing that has not been done on other platforms. And fantastic sports as a hobby already have a lot of infrastructure on the current web.

The concept here is cool, at least. It might be better not to let the blockchain reduce the mood everything. Anything that makes people more interested and engaged in the film should be a victory. But whenever you get crypto, it’s hard not to start looking for where the carpet traction will happen.
