Mohsin Naqvi firm on Asian Cup trophy presentation

Mohsin Naqvi has once again made his stand clear on the presentation of the Asia Cup Trophy. He said that if India wants the trophy, then skipper Suryakumar Yadav must go to Dubai and receive it.

India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan in Dubai three months ago. However, the champions did not receive the trophy. The men in blue refused to accept the trophy from Asia Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi.

Naqvi is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Due to this situation, the Asian Cup trophy is still kept at the ACC office in Dubai.

“This will be treated equally”

Mohsin Naqvi said that if India wants the trophy, the team will have to collect it from Dubai. “There is a status quo when it comes to giving away the trophy. If India wants the trophy, they have to send their captain to Dubai and receive it from me,” Naqvi told Telecom Asia Sport.

Naqvi added that Pakistan will not compromise. As the Indian players refused to shake hands, they will get equal treatment.

“If India does not allow its players to shake hands with our players, then the matter will be treated on an equal footing and there will be no compromise. We have no interest in shaking hands with them,” he added.

How did the situation intensify?

The controversy began after Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Agha during the toss. The same behavior was seen again when Indian teams participated in the Women’s World Cup in Sri Lanka in November. This also happened at the Rising Star Asia Cup in Doha that month and the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai that month.
