Mitchell Starc makes a huge ODI retirement declaration after leaving the T20i cricket

Australia Fast Bowler, Mitchell Starc, spoke of her T20i format retirement just six months ahead of the T20 2026 World Cup. The fast left arm launcher said that he had decided to withdraw from T20is to preserve his body for the test cricket, adding that he was considering withdrawing from the ODI given his age.
Starc will continue to play tests, ODIs and in the franchise leagues. The 35 -year -old man obtained 79 counters in 65 T20is with an average of 23.8, with an economic rate of approximately 7.75. He was also part of the winning team of the World Cup in 2021 in Australia. Starc played for the last time for the Australian cricket team at the T20 2024 World Cup.

Mitchell Starc said he was planning to move away from a limited format. Starc pointed out that test cricket remains its absolute priority, and he wants to preserve his body to maximize his participation and performance in the longest format.

“If I was not going to be in the context for 2027, then I didn’t want to take the place. I always feel like I have a lot to offer this ODI team. I thought about it for a while. I feel like it was probably a good time,” Mitchell Starc told Cricket.com.au.
“I am 35 years old now, the tests have always been my priority and they will remain my priority. For lack of a better term, I want to milk my body as much as possible as a test cricket as possible. It was never going to be outside the table,” he added.

Mitchell Starc said he still had a lot to offer Australia Squad ODI for the ICC 2025 World Cup. The left arm stimulator added that his goal was to extend his international cricket career.
“I just felt like one of the other formats should give. I have the impression of having a lot to offer the ODI team, in order to get my body to 2027 – but also to be good enough to be in this team for the World Cup in 2027. I had the impression that it was my best opportunity to extend my test career and go to this World Cup,” said Starc.
Starc will be 37 years old when the next ODI World Cup takes place. He is the most fit member of the Australian rhythm attack alongside Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. The Pacer was one of the winning teams of Australia in the 2015 and 2023 editions.

The fast launcher expressed confidence in the “fairly well established” T20i rhythm attack in Australia. Starc said that the team is well positioned and that it is not necessary to disturb its current balance.
“The T20 team seems to be quite installed with the guys who have entered; they did superb things,” said Starc. “Nathan Ellis flies, Ben Dwarshuis played a big role, Spencer Johnson did good things when he played, Sean Abbott too. I have the impression that this team is in an ideal place and I don’t need to interrupt this.”
Australia is expected to visit New Zealand for a T20I series of three games from October 1, with all the matches scheduled in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. The versatile veteran Marcus Stoinis returned to the team of 14 members.
Matt Short, Mitch Owen and Xavier Bartlett were also included. Captain Pat Cummins is not available due to a back problem, and Nathan Ellis is on paternity leave. The second and third T20i are scheduled for October 3 and 4.
