Meryl Streep back in “Mamma Mia 3”?

It’s not the first time, but rumors are starting to circulate that Meryl Streep, who played Donna, could return in Mom Mia 3.
But the problem is that Donna died in 2018 in the sequel Mama Mia! Here we go again. However, Stellan Skarsgard, who played Bill Anderson, gave fans hope.
“She can be brought back from the dead – everyone can be brought back from the dead in movies – and in movies she’s fantastic,” the 74-year-old said at the 2026 Golden Globes.
The actor, who played Donna’s former fling, also said: “A lot of people are working on it to bring her back.”
Meanwhile, Meryl opens up about her return to the role: “If there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally there. I’m up for anything.”
“I told Judy that if she could find a way to reincarnate Donna, I was interested. Or it could be like one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals that it’s actually her twin sister who died. We might have to call her Grandma Mia! until we do it!” she once told the oral history of Mamma Mia! from Vogue.
It should be noted Mom Mia 3 has not yet been officially announced.
