“Mera Ek Aim Hai” – When Virat Kohli revealed his desire to reach a special benchmark in test cricket

It’s been a long time since India test captain Rohit Sharma announced his format retirement on Wednesday, May 7. Now, a few days later, on Saturday, May 10, several reports suggest that the veteran dough Virat Kohli also informed the BCCI of its intention to withdraw from the test cricket. However, the board of directors would encourage him to rethink his decision.
A familiar source with development told the Indian Express:
“He decided and informed the Board of Directors that he came out of the test cricket. The BCCI urged him to rethink while the crucial tour in England arrives. It has not yet been postponed on the request.”
In the midst of these developments, a former declaration of the cricket player born in Delhi resurfaced and became viral, in which he expressed his ambition to mark 10,000 races in test cricket.
During an appearance on the “Seedhi Baat” segment of AAJ Tak in 2013, Kohli mentioned that even if he does not focus on records, he has a clear goal to reach the 10,000 -point milestone in the longest format of the game. Kohli said:
“May Records by Bilkul Nazar Nazar Nahi Rakhta Hu. Mera Yeh Focus Nahta Rehta Ki Mujhe Ab 5 Innings Bachi Hai 3 Century Bana Dunga to Yeh Record Ban Jayega, May Yeh Sab Nahi Sochta Hu. Hai, Jo Mahunga bought Karna.”
[I don’t keep track of records at all. When I score a century in a match, I find out afterward that it was the quickest to 10 centuries or something like that. So I only get to know about it after the match. Before the match, my focus is not on things like, ‘I have 5 innings left, and if I score 3 more centuries, I’ll set a record.’ I don’t think that way. My aim is to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, and that’s something I really want to achieve].
Meanwhile, the veteran striker is still at 770 covers to reach the personal milestone he has set for himself. Until now, Kohli has played 123 test games, marking 9,230 points at an average of 46.85, including 31 half-century and 30 centuries.
Virat Kohli has experienced difficulties considerably in test cricket in the past five years
Virat Kohli was at the top of his test career until the end of 2020, after having played 87 games and scored 7,318 points to a remarkable average of 53.42, including 23 half-century and 27 centuries.
However, things have slowed down for the veteran striker since the beginning of 2021. During his last 36 tests, he only succeeded in a modest average of 31.87, with only eight fifty and three centuries during this period.
