Mark Hamill recalls receiving a ‘no’ from ‘Star Wars’ director

Mark Hamill wanted a reunion of the original heroes in Star Wars: The Force Awakensi.e. Harrison Ford’s Han Solo and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia.
But JJ Abrams, the director behind the film, turned down the actor who played Luke Skywalker’s request. However, the star claims that the filmmaker had a valid reason for doing this.
“I said, ‘Aren’t we going to have a time where the three of us come together to raise the roof?’ It will only take 30 seconds,” says Mark. The Hollywood Reporter last round table of actors. “And JJ said, ‘Well, Mark, it’s not Luke’s story anymore.’
The Force Awakensa sixth installment in the Star Wars saga, did two jobs, Abrams previously told Wired. Firstly, it laid the groundwork for the sequels, while secondly, it provided its own complete story.
“Working on this new film has been as much about trying to put together elements of what’s beyond what you see as it has been about telling a story that will be satisfying in its own right,” he explained. “But it can’t feel like a cop-out — like we’re just setting things up and not solving them.”
