Man Utd now eyes ‘outstanding’ record maestro with low release clause
Manchester United are now interested in Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn. It has been revealed that the midfielder has an affordable release clause, but there could be rival interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
Gary Neville has suggested that Ruben Amorim may need to improve his team’s spine, given his current options are arguably in the latter stages of their careers, saying: “You have the midfield, Casemiro and Bruno have huge experience.
“Ahead, they don’t have the experience. But for me, the backbone of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Maguire and De Ligt is getting older, but should do much better than them to hold it all together.”
Casemiro has proven that age is just a number with some of his recent performances, leading United to contact his agent about a new contract, but with the Brazilian set to turn 34 in just over three months, Amorim may have to start thinking about a long-term replacement.
Carlos Baleba was named as the Red Devils’ dream target earlier this week, with Elliot Anderson also of interest, despite Nottingham Forest’s huge asking price, but they have now joined the hectic race for another promising prospect…
Man Utd eyeing Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn
According to an update from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, Man United are now eyeing Hertha Berlin maestro Eichhorn, who recently broke the record to become the youngest player in 2. Bundesliga history.
Deemed an “exceptional talent” by Plettenberg, the 16-year-old is already a regular starter for the German second division side, which has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, including RB Leipzig, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
The teenager has an affordable release clause of just €10-12 million (£9-11 million) included in his contract with the German club, and there are many indications that he could be a fantastic long-term addition to Amorim’s squad.
Becoming a first-team regular at just 16 years old is an achievement in itself, with the youngster having made ten appearances in all competitions this season, and he put in some impressive performances, considering his age, to retain his place in the team.
Last month, the Hertha starlet showed off his all-round qualities in a 2-1 win over Munster, creating a big chance, while also making four combined interceptions and tackles to keep the opposition at bay.
Eichhorn is certainly a player of the future, but it is also vital that Man United bring in a midfielder who can immediately slot into the starting XI in January, given that Casemiro’s contract is set to expire this summer and Kobbie Mainoo’s future is still in major doubt…
