Man United ready to sell Rasmus Hojlund permanently in January

Napoli’s pursuit of Rasmus Højlund has shifted into high gear.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Serie A side have been given the “green light” to convert the on-loan Manchester United striker into a permanent signing as early as January, activating a £38 million option negotiated with the Old Trafford club.

The 22-year-old has rediscovered his spark at Napoli, and with six goals in six appearances in all competitions, the Danish striker’s form is accelerating negotiations towards a quick resolution.

For Napoli it is the opportunity to secure a long-term number 9, for Højlund it is the opportunity to consolidate a leading role in a system that clearly suits him.

Højlund’s impact was immediate. Unleashed by Napoli’s front-foot approach and abundance of service from creative midfielders and wide men, the Dane has shown form that prompted Man United to sign him in the first place.

The goals came in a variety of ways, early goals, transition drives and decisive touches in crowded areas, showing that he had managed to regain his form and confidence.

From Napoli’s point of view, triggering the £38 million clause makes sense and as things stand it looks like a bargain.

This provides clarity heading into the second half of the season and protects the club from a competitive summer market in which Højlund’s price would likely rise if his form continues.

The fees also seem reasonable for a 22 year old with significant upside and resale potential.

United would part ways with a young striker whose ceiling remains high and whose form in Italy has been sensational. The Red Devils have moved on after signing Benjamin Sesko during the summer transfer window.

Højlund himself seems comfortable in Serie A. The tactical demands of the league have channeled his movements and decision-making.

Nothing is signed yet, but the momentum, the form on the pitch and the leverage off it, all point towards a permanent Partenopei chapter for the Danish international.
