Kuala Lumpur (Reuters) – The Malaysia Ministry of Commerce said on Monday that export, transhipment and transit of high performance artificial intelligence fleas will be subject to a trade permit, with immediate effect.
Individuals or companies are required to inform the authorities at least 30 days in advance during export, transhipping or transit introduction of any element which is not expressly listed on the list of strategic elements of Malaysia, the ministry said in a press release.
This decision is used to fill the regulatory gaps while Malaysia reviews the inclusion of high -performance AI chips of American origin in its list of strategic elements, the ministry added.
“Malaysia is firm against any attempt to bypass export controls or to engage in unlawful commercial activities by any person or business, which faces strict legal action if it is found violating the laws.”
The country of Southeast Asia has worked to strengthen the regulations on semiconductors because it is under pressure from the United States for the Chinese China flow to be crucial for AI development, the Financial Times said in March.
Malaysia also investigated whether local laws had been raped in the expedition of servers linked to a fraud case in Singapore, as they could have contained advanced fleas subject to American export controls.
