The athletics pitch staff will become a little healthier for the section with the return of Luis Severino to the starting rotation.

Severino (6-11, 4.82 ERA) left the list of wounded 15 days on Monday after recovering from a left oblique tension. The right-hander will start on Tuesday against the cardinals of St. Louis (68-71) in the intermediate match of a three-game road series.

Athletics (64-75) rolled out the Cardinals 11-3 Monday evening in the opening of the series to take its three-game defeats.

Severino will have its first appearance since a 16-7 victory against the Nationals host of Washington on August 5. He met the quality metric of quality while granting three points on five strokes and two steps with five stick withdrawals in six sleeves.

He returns from his injury without starting a rehabilitation of the minor leagues.

“He had a BP live three with up to 50 locations, so I guess we can take it, you know, in range 75 and see what he feels,” said the director of A Mark Kotsay. “But it is good to find him. It is obviously a large part and a large part of our future here, and you know, seeing it be able to finish this season is a big plus.”

Severino has only the start of a career against the cardinals and it went badly: nine points (seven deserved) granted nine strokes and three goals on balls in four rounds in July 2023 with the New York Yankees in a 11-4 defeat.

The Athletics Water Nick Kurtz remained away on Monday with oblique tension. The receiver Shea Langeliers also insured, but he could come back on Tuesday.

Athletics has expanded its list by promoting the public service player Max Schuemann and the right-hander Scott McGough from Triple-A Las Vegas. The launcher Eduarniel Nunez opted for Las Vegas to make room for Severino.

MCGOUGH launched two rounds on Monday, granting one point on two safe strokes while attracting three strikers.

After granting 15 shots by athletics on Monday, the cardinals will look for a better pitch on Tuesday.

“Our staff in general, we do not have a ton of Swing-and-Miss in the area (the strike),” said Oliver Marmol, director of the cardinals. “You are faced with a team that is probably – not probably, they are – the most aggressive team with regard to the 0-0 swing rate. And they have guys with a fairly good power.”

They will start Miles Mikolas (6-10, 5.04), which held the Pittsburgh Pirates visiting one point on four strokes with a walk and five stick withdraws in five rounds during its last departure Thursday.

“If I can mix in the curve, my slowest terrain, and this fast four -seaming ball … These two throws play fairly well, to start the top of the area and stay there or start from the top and cut under the area,” said Mikolas. “If I can be effective to mix these two locations effectively, it helps me a lot.”

Mikolas is 0-1 with an MPM of 9.00 in 11 rounds in two career starts against athletics.

Victor Scott II from the list of wounded 10 days after recovering from an ankle injury. Willson Contreras stayed in the alignment on Monday pending his call for a suspension of six games and went 0 for 4 with two stick withdrawals.

The key lifter Riley O’Brien was sidelined by the fatigue of the right shoulder.
