Lucas Raymond elevates Red Wings ahead of Jonathan Quick and Rangers

Lucas Raymond scored the go-ahead goal with 3:47 left in the third period and the visiting Detroit Red Wings overcame a stellar performance from Jonathan Quick to earn a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday night.
Raymond had a goal and an assist after having three assists Saturday, when Detroit blew a three-goal lead in an overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Raymond broke a 1-1 tie by forcing his way through the offensive zone after New York’s Alexis Lafreniere lost the puck to Moritz Seider near the neutral zone. Seider stole the puck, fed Dylan Larkin and Raymond took possession as he crossed the blue line.
Raymond rushed down the left side, got around New York defender Carson Soucy and went around the net. He faked a shot near the right circle before moving between the circles and lifting the puck over Quick, who was sprawled at the edge of the crease.
Alex DeBrincat scored a second-period power-play goal for the Red Wings, who ended a seven-game losing streak against the Rangers.
Mika Zibanejad scored on a power play in the second period for the Rangers, who fell short of their fourth straight victory as coach Mike Sullivan missed the game for personal reasons.
Before Raymond’s goal, the Red Wings were frustrated with Quick for most of the night. Quick made 40 saves, including 15 on Detroit’s five power plays.
Quick stopped Larkin and Patrick Kane seven times each. He also stopped Raymond six times, including a sprawling save with about eight minutes remaining.
Detroit’s Cam Talbot stopped 18 shots against his original team.
Quick stopped the first 19 shots until the Red Wings scored on a hooking penalty on rookie Noah Laba.
Raymond’s shot from the right circle was stopped by Quick but deflected by him and DeBrincat sent the loose puck into the left side of the net with 10 1/2 minutes left in the period.
Zibanejad responded for the Rangers on a delay of game penalty on Moritz Seider by heading to the edge of the slot.
Artemi Panarin’s shot from the middle of the slot was deflected by Will Cuylle, who sent the puck to Zibanejad. Zibanejad drove past Detroit rookie Marco Kasper, gained possession and tied it up by hefting the rebound into the open right of the net with 8:01 remaining.
