Liverpool agree in principle to Dominik Szoboszlai contract

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has reportedly reached an agreement in principle on a new contract at Anfield.

My sources tell me that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had shown concrete interest in signing the Hungarian international, but he is now expected to commit his future to Liverpool.

Szoboszlai’s current contract is due to expire in 2028. Although there was no rush to agree a new deal for him, the club was keen to fight off interest from other major European teams.

It’s not entirely clear whether Szoboszlai had definitely been a top target for Real or Bayern, but a certain level of interest was there and Liverpool were always keen to keep the player.

Szoboszlai has long been highly rated since his youth days with Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, and he has only gone from strength to strength since joining Liverpool.

The 25-year-old played a key role in Arne Slot’s side’s success last season, scoring eight goals in total, while he has five goals and four assists in all competitions so far this season.

According to FotMob, Szoboszlai is statistically the second best player in LFC this season with a rating of 7.32…

It’s easy to see why big names like Real and Bayern might have liked Szoboszlai, but it would surely have been a big mistake for Liverpool to let him leave.
