Limewire acquires fyre festival, has waves plans to offer `real experiences ”

Limewire announced that he had acquired the rights of the Fyre Festival, the Disastrous Festival of Music 2017 fueled by influence. The newly relaunched company – which now acts as a NFT music market rather than a file sharing service – has bought the rights for $ 245,000 for ebay auction, The New York Times Reports. A separate plan to use the name of the Fyre festival to launch a new musical streaming service was announced in April 2025.
“Fyre has become a symbol of the media threw that went wrong, but it also made history,” said Julian Zehetmayr, CEO of Limewire, shared in a press release. “We do not bring the festival – we bring the brand and the meme to life. This time with real experiences and without cheese sandwiches.”
It seems that Limewire would like to transform the Fyre Festival into a physical advantage of digital collectibles which it sells via its NFT market. The company plans to reveal “a redesigned vision for Fyre” in the coming months which “extends beyond the digital field and exploits the experiences, the community and the surprise of the real world”. At the height of their popularity, the NFTs have been frequently sold as memberships of communities and exclusive events, so if it is Tack Limewire Takes, it would not be particularly original.
Of course, originality may not be the goal when a key strategy for your business apparently acquires and reinvents the old brands. Limewire’s bet seems to be that the recognition of the name of the NFT purchase of a musician in Limewire or attend a Fyre Festival event and not to block the Bahamas will be sufficient for some people.
