Lenovo and Dell warn: your next laptop could cost more very soon

First the pandemicSO prices and now the AI crisis: tech buyers just can’t catch a break in the face of shortages and rising prices. According to a report from market research firm TrendForce, Dell plans to raise prices of its systems by at least 15-20% starting in mid-December, while Lenovo told customers that its current pricing schedule would be reset starting January 1, 2026.

Blame it on AI, in part. With billions spent to build data center infrastructure for AI, the provision of essential system components, such as memory and SSD storage, is caught in the flow.
Representatives for Dell and Lenovo did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The timing of these shortages is unfortunate for PC makers, who typically announce at CES in early January a lineup of products that will ship in the first half of the year. It’s also bad news for manufacturers of complementary components, including Intel and AMD.
