The North Korean leader Kim Jong One once again met the families of his soldiers killed to fight for Russia against Ukraine, offering condolences for their “unbearable pain” and promising the “good life”, bend, reports the state media.
The KCNA state agency reported on Saturday that Kim had welcomed the families of soldiers killed and expressed “the sorrow of having failed to save the precious life” from those who sacrificed their lives to defend the honor of the country.
The meeting was the second opportunity reported that Kim met families of soldiers who fell this month. Pyongyang did not confirm the number of troops that were killed by fighting for Russia, although Seoul estimated about 600, thousands of other injured.
“I arranged this meeting because I wanted to meet and console the bereaved families of all the heroes and relieve them a little sorrow and anxiety,” said Kim in his speech, according to Kcna.
Kim also undertook to build a monument in the capital, Pyongyang, as well as to appoint a new street for bereaved families, and the state will provide total support to the children of deceased soldiers.
The North Korean leader said that his “heart and pain breaks” for children who have lost fathers.
“Me, our state and our army will take full responsibility for them and form them admirably as firm and courageous fighters like their fathers,” he added.
The South Korean and Western intelligence agencies said that Kim had sent more than 10,000 soldiers to Russia in 2024 – mainly in the Kursk region – as well as artillery shells produced by North Korea, missiles and long -range rocket systems.
During a ceremony with members of the mourning family and veterans of the Ukraine war last week, the images published by KCNA showed an emotional Kim kissing a returned soldier who seemed outdated, buried his face in the chest of the chief.
The chief was also seen kneeling in front of a portrait of a fell soldier to pay tribute and place medals and flowers next to the images of dead troops.
Kim is expected to stand alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese chief Xi Jinping during a military parade in Beijing next week, marking Japan’s surrender during the Second World War.
Relations between Kim and Putin have increased significantly since they signed a military alliance in 2024.
