When asked to define his long-term roadmap, Naqvi responded with a confident statement of intent. “The vision is simple: to make the PSL the best league in the world. With people like Ramiz and Wasim on our side, I am confident that this is absolutely achievable,” he said. However, the statement attracted widespread mockery from Indian cricket fans online, many of whom referred to Naqvi’s controversial handling during the presentation of the Asia Cup trophy when India beat Pakistan in the final.

Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), took back the trophy after India refused to accept it directly from him, triggering diplomatic tensions between the cricket boards. It is positive that both sides now appear to be close to reaching a resolution. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that talks began during the recent ICC meetings in Dubai.“I participated in both the informal and formal ICC meeting. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During a formal meeting, this was not on the agenda, but ICC facilitated a meeting between me and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC official and another senior official,” Saikia told PTI.He added that the discussions were respectful and productive.“It was really a good thing to start the negotiation process. Both sides cordially participated in the meeting held on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting,” he said, expressing optimism that the issue will be resolved soon. With the trophy currently kept at the ACC headquarters in Dubai and travel restricted on orders from Naqvi, the issue remains symbolic but sensitive.“Both sides will find a solution to resolve the issue at the earliest. The ice is now broken,” Saikia added.
