The BCCI announced on Friday a well balanced India in Squad for England tour, but some choices raised the eyebrows. Although this series should have been an opportunity for domestic artists to expose themselves to conditions in England, the selectors seemed to have missed the trick by not choosing the All-round Mumbai little known Shams Mulani.
He is not only a large, lower scorer in the order of strikers, but is really a real option of taking a counter, which should have been rewarded for his superlative performances. In 50 FC games, Mulani scored 2165 points at an average of 32, then continued to bag 234 counters at an average of only 23.
These statistics have been neglected, for Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar. The first finished as the highest guard of the last season of Ranji – 69 in 10 games, and deserved a look, but that Suthar, who had 17 counters in 4 games, did not make much sense. Shams Mulani, like other years, has brought in performance, with the bats and the ball this season too.
In 9 games, he scored 365 points at an average of 33.18, including one ton and two fifty, while with the ball in hand, he picked up 44 windows, an average of 23 years. So maybe the 28-year-old could have been included in the team. But then, we don’t really know if his name was considered or not, and why he did not succeed. Perhaps, with another good season, he could well be cup.
Meanwhile, India is to start the tour with the Lions of England on May 30 and will play two games. The third match in the series will take place and an intra-squad confrontation between India A and the India team, before the start of the test series on June 20.
India A Squad for England Tour: Abhimhanyu Aswaran, Dhruv Jurel, Yashsvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, Manav Sutar, Tanush Kotian, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfarboj, Khaleel Ahmed, Khan, Tushar Deshpande, Harsh Dubey.
After the 1st match: Shubman Gillidh Shanb, if suin First.
