Jim Parsons weighs in on a possible reboot of the Big Bang theory

Jim Parsons lets fans know if he’s planning a Big Bang Theory restart in his future.
“I can’t imagine,” Parsons, 52, said exclusively. Us every week at the American Ballet Theater Fall 2025 Gala. “Well, I could imagine, but no, I guess not.”
Although more than six years have passed since the series ended in 2019, the Emmy Award-winning actor said he still has “so many” special memories from his work on the series.
“I remember our first season, after about seven or eight episodes, the writers went on strike and they told us we were going to stop. We weren’t going to do any more until it was over,” Parsons said. “And we were all so upset about it. And it certainly wasn’t a stereotype, and rightfully so, we were like, ‘Oh my God, my job,’ it wasn’t that. It was that we already enjoyed this show so much and really felt like we had something, and it scared us and we thought it might mean a premature end to the show.”
Parsons said We that the situation ended up benefiting the show more than they could have imagined.
“It ended up working in our favor. More people were able to watch us in replays and [when] we came back to [it]it became something bigger, but we didn’t know it at the time,” Parsons said. “And I look back on it because like I said, seven episodes or whatever, we all knew in our hearts that we were part of something that could have been, it was special, and it could have continued and it felt like, whatever you call it, the particularities of the business and the way it was going could have derailed it, and it could have. We were very lucky.
In the sitcom, which ran for 12 seasons, Parsons starred as the brilliant and quirky physicist Sheldon Cooper. He played alongside Kaley Cuoco, Mayim Bialik, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Melissa Rauch And Kevin Sussman. The sitcom aired on CBS and received four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series throughout its run. Parsons won four Emmy Awards for his role.
Before the end of 2019 The Big Bang Theory, a prequel series titled Young Sheldon debuted in 2017. Young Sheldon ended in May 2024, at which point the series’ timeline caught up with what was happening in the original series. Ian Armitage starred as the main character in the prequel, alongside Zoe Pear, Spear Hairdresser, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revise, Annie Potts, Wyatt McClure, Mast Hobby And Emilie Osment.
The third series of The Big Bang Theory universe, Georgie and Mandy’s first marriagewas released in October 2024 and stars Jordan, 22, and Osment, 33, as Georgie Cooper, Sheldon’s older brother, and his wife, Mandy McAllister, respectively.
The second episode of season 2 airs Thursday, October 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Previous episodes are currently streaming on Paramount+.
