Jeremy Renner played in this underestimated action film the same year as the Avengers

There was a period when Jeremy Renner was on a sequence of victories. After having won a role in the award -winning war drama of Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker”, he appeared everywhere. In addition to following him with an impressive performance in the breakage film made by Ben Affleck, “The Town”, he then started to switch between spy stories and superhero outings in three of the biggest franchises at the time.

After joining the IMF alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and resuming his bow with the most powerful heroes of the Earth in “The Avengers”, Renner dared to try to take the release left by the amnesiac assassin of Matt Damon, Jason Bourne, in the thriller of spin -off “the bourne”. Although he received a lukewarm reception at the time and a success at the box office, he believes that, even getting out of the “The Avengers”, the race to Renner in the Bourne Pour is another project that had potential – but suffered from the same problem as so many tagongs of failed franchise.

After the release of “The Bourne Ultimatum”, the dynamic duo of director Paul Grengrass and the star Matt Damon agreed that the third film would be their last meeting with the deadliest asset of Treadstone. This forced Universal to try to produce everything it could for this cold world of agents who killed targets with rolled newspapers. His solution was a diversion featuring a different character entirely named Aaron Cross (Renner), who, after having freed himself from a program similar to that of Bourne who used chemical improvements, turned our hero against those who created him. Cue Moby.

On paper, there were far too many names in this distribution list for “The Bourne Legacy” so as not to attract good attention. In addition to the rising star to renner leading the charge, he obtained the support of Rachel Weisz as a scientist and the end of the program that created Cross. There is also Edward Norton as a shaded government head of consumable assets to try to make our hero kill, and even an early appearance of Oscar Isaac (who would continue to achieve even greater things).

Then there is history. Although a little daring in its genetic improvement and its super-soldier themes, it always honors the name of Bourne in various ways. In addition to the events of “The Bourne Ultimatum”, Renner’s Cross arrives just as hard and creatively as Matt Damon’s government nightmare in knitwear, although he makes time to deliver his first punch. Accelerating in the streets on bikes at the same rate as the original agent and eliminating enemies with just as inventive methods, “The Bourne Legacy” is just as entertaining as the franchise from which it turns. It also represents an impressive effort by Tony Gilroy; The film is one of his rare director’s releases after writing the first three films. He is a shame, then, that if he had been withdrawn from the story of Jason Bourne, he could have had the potential to forge his own future as a franchise led by Renner, which he had trouble establishing at the time.

Even with all his lead nursing homes and his references to the journey of Jason Bourne (whose name is literally sculpted in the film at one point), “The Bourne Legacy” could have had the chance to succeed if he had not been so dependent on the spy films. To separate from a beloved franchise is always risky, but it is even more for the stories that are too afraid to stand alone and to do their own thing. The story of Gilroy’s “Star Wars” has acclaimed Gilroy’s criticism, Andor, is an excellent example of how this type of story can work, which “The Bourne Legacy” has not succeeded. The result is what has led to the casual history which earns a decent but not dynamite box office of $ 280 million against a budget of $ 125 million. This level of success was not sufficient, with a speech on a suite or a crossover which is quickly canceled and Damon who is revised again to return as Bourne in 2016.

To Renner, it was another failed franchise that was likely not to be. If it had perhaps applied the practices of government agencies to which he concentrated and expurred the links with Bourne to a perfectly timed revelation, the rebel agent to Renner could have attracted enough attention. Rightly, since it is actually a better watch than “Jason Bourne” in the “Bourne” ranking. In the end, Hollywood may have seen “The Bourne Legacy” briefly tarnishing the franchise of which she was a part, but we say that the solo exit to renner solo is always to remember.
