Jasprit Bumrah bamboozles Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj with incredible deliveries for a 5-iron bag at Eden Gardens

Legendary Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah took the ball in his new spell after the tea break and rolled up the Proteas tail just inside 2 overs. Bumrah achieved his five-wicket haul with the dismissal of Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj in the same manner.

India plays South Africa in the first Test at the iconic Eden Gardens venue in Kolkata. Jasprit Bumrah started out as the best choice among Indian bowlers, as he was their main pacer in the team, along with four other spinners.

Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Simon Harmer with a delivery that snuck under his bat

Jasprit Bumrah came on to bowl the second delivery of his new spell after Tea. He was hit for a boundary off the second ball and then answered accurately by the Indian pundit. South Africa were already 8 wickets down at tea on the first day.

Bumrah came in steaming and looked just too good for a number 10 batter as he disturbed the woodwork of the Protea batter. The ball was bowled at a good length and came back into the right-hander’s stumps.

As Harmer seemed rooted to the crease, the ball snuck under the bat and crashed against the off stump, leaving the batter baffled. Just a quirky smile on Bumrah’s face as he gets things done his way.

Five wickets for Bumrah with Keshav Maharaj’s short stay at Eden Gardens

In the same over, Bumrah ended the South African innings by cleaning up Keshav Maharaj with the last ball of the over. Another moving Yorker that landed straight on Maharaj’s boots as he tried to remove his leg but the ball crashed on his toes.

In front of middle and leg stump, India appealed harder and Rod Tucker raised his finger, and the South African batter had to step back without any consideration to ask for a DRS. Bumrah finished the innings with figures of 14 overs, 5 maidens, 27 runs and 5 wickets.

South Africa were bowled out for 159 on the opening day, with Aiden Markram the pick of the batters with 31 runs. Ryan Rickelton, Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs and Kyle Verreynne reached double figures.

Jasprit Bumrah breaks long-standing record for India

Jasprit Bumrah did not perform to the best of his abilities in the recent series against West Indies and Australia. He also picked 7 wickets against West Indies, but made a stunning debut in the South African series.

Bumrah dismissed five batters and picked up five wickets by a pacer on the very first day of the Test match at the Eden Gardens. It was the first time for a fast bowler since Ishant Sharma’s record-breaking run in 2019 against Bangladesh at the same venue.
