“It’s national and a bit in the world”

Nebraska Volleyball coach Dani Busboom Kelly recently got honest about his feelings on the Huskers program’s growing popularity outside of Nebraska. Busboom Kelly joined the Huskers as head coach in January 2025 and has seen growing fan interest in his team.

The Huskers recently competed in away games against Penn State at Rec Hall at Pennsylvania State University and Rutgers at Jersey Mike’s Arena in New Jersey on Friday and Saturday, respectively. They beat both teams with a dominant 3-0 victory. After the back-to-back win, Busboom Kelly highlighted the love his team received in the two away games, saying the fans lined up for the players which made them feel like rockstars.

Busboom Kelly further added that the popularity of Huskers is no longer limited to borders and has reached the entire world.

“It was pretty crazy. So, I wasn’t exercising. Both places were like the many home games. You know Penn State obviously has a lot of fans, but we had tons of fans there and they’re like buses when we leave, which is really great and makes you feel a little bit like a rockstar and Rutgers almost more fun than being at home and feeling like fans who don’t never see.”

Dani Busboom Kelly added:

“They’re so excited and grateful to be there and it was just a really good vibe and a good feeling and again, I surprised myself how big this volleyball team is getting, this program isn’t in Nebraska anymore. It’s national and a little bit in the world.”

So far in the season, the Huskers are undefeated with a 14-0 record.

Dani Busboom Kelly plans remainder of season for Nebraska volleyball

After wins over defending champion Penn State and Rutgers, Dani Busboom Kelly opened up about being undefeated this season. In an interview with Hurrdat Sports, she looked ahead to the rest of the season, stating that the team has a long way to go, while also emphasizing the importance of competitive players to each other.

"You know we have a long way to go," Dani Busboom Kelly said. “So, it feels a little early, and I think changing lineups and we’ve talked a ton about our depth and we’ll continue to talk about it. I think it helped fuel a lot and help us stay consistent. It’s that we want to play very well against our opponents, but I think more importantly we want to play very well for each other. “

The Nebraska volleyball team will next lock horns at home with Washington on October 10, 2025.
