A global truce for the duration of the Winter Olympic Games in February 2026 in Milano Cortina will be sought by the hosts in Italy.

Italy will submit a proposal for a world cease-fire to the United Nations before the Olympic Cortina Cortina in Milano Cortina, said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
As a concept, a world truce during the Olympic Games dates back to the old Games in Greece, where war factions have agreed to put the arms for the duration of the event, so that athletes can move safely towards and from the old Olympia.

The calls of the organizers of the Olympic Games and the UN for the world ceasefire have not been taken into account during the matches of the modern era since 1896, including the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Milano Cortina Games open on February 6 and take place until February 22.
“Given the Jeano Cortina Olympics, we present a proposal for an Olympic truce for all wars, including Ukraine and the Middle East, at the United Nations,” Tajani told Tuesday.
“We must be peace champions,” he said on the sidelines of an international conference in Rome. “We support the American plan (to end the war in Gaza) and, as Pope Leo said, we must never give up hoping for peace.”
The 20-point plan presented by US President Donald Trump, on whom Israel and Hamas began indirect talks on Monday, is considered the most promising initiative to end a war that has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023. The attack led by Hamas against Israel that day killed 1,200 people.
Tuesday marked the second anniversary of the war against Gaza.
In response to the devastation of Gaza and the humanitarian disasters formulated by the military campaign of Israel, a number of large Western countries, but not of Italy, have officially recognized the Palestinian State, approving Palestinian aspirations for a long time to an independent homeland on land occupied by Israeli.
In Ukraine, the pro-Western government has been fighting against a Russian invasion for more than three and a half years, in the largest armed conflict in Europe since the Second World War and which killed hundreds of thousands of people.
