Israel condemned the troops in occupied West Bank drawing “warning plans” near visiting diplomats

Jenin, West Bank – Several nations which supported Israel during his war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip expressed indignation on Wednesday after Israeli troops fired what they called “warning strokes” while foreign diplomats visited the occupied West Bank.

A European diplomat said that the envoys had gone to the region to see the destruction caused in the West Bank by Israeli military raids during the Gaza War, which was launched by the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 led by Hamas.

Several countries which had group representatives expressed indignation and demanded an investigation.

“We are calling on Israel to investigate this incident and to hold officials who are responsible for any threat to the lives of diplomats,” said Kaja Kallas, head of the European Union foreign policy.

Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay summoned the ambassadors of Israel or said that they would directly raise the issue.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described the “completely unacceptable” incident and asked for an “immediate explanation”.

Carney added that Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand summoned the Israel ambassador to Ottawa.

Egypt denounced the shooting as a violation of “all diplomatic standards”, while Turkey demanded an immediate investigation.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said: “This attack must be surveyed without delay and the authors must be held responsible.”

Ahmad al-Deek, political advisor to the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who accompanied the delegation, condemned what he called an “imprudent act of the Israeli army”.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the delegation included diplomats from more than 20 countries, including Great Britain, China, Egypt, France, Japan, Jordan, Turkey and Russia.

British Minister of Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer said on Wednesday that he said directly with British diplomats affected by the incident and that he called for an investigation.

“Today’s events in Jenin are unacceptable. I spoke to our diplomats that have been affected,” he said in an article on social networks. “Civilians must always be protected and diplomats authorized to do their job. There must be a complete investigation and officials should be held responsible.”

“The Japanese government protested by the Israeli party and asked for an explanation and the prevention of a recurrence,” government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi told Tokyo, confirming that diplomatic staff in the country had participated in the delegation.

Israel-Europe more and more tense links on Gaza, DC MURDERS

The incident came while anger mounted on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the Palestinians rush for basic supplies after weeks of almost total isolation. A blockade of Israeli aid of two months on Gaza was partially relaxed this week, but not enough to mitigate the hunger crisis in the face of the 2 million inhabitants of the enclave, according to the UN and humanitarian agencies.

Israel has intensified its military offensive during the weekend, promising to defeat the leaders of Hamas in Gaza, whose October 2023 attack on Israel sparked the war.

Israel faced massive pressure, including its allies, to stop its intensified offensive and allow aid to Gaza. The European Union foreign ministers ordered an examination of the EU cooperation agreement on Tuesday with Israel.

Sweden said it would support the EU imposing sanctions on Israeli ministers, while Great Britain has suspended free trade negotiations with Israel and summoned the Israeli ambassador.

Pope Leo XIV described the situation in Gaza as “disturbing and painful” and called for “the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid”.
