Indian ODI and T20I squad announced on Sunday, Shubman Gill will be fit for December 9 series

The IND vs SA white-ball series starts after the Test series on November 30 in Ranchi.

The IND vs SA Test series is underway at the moment, which will also be followed by the ODIs and T20Is, starting from November 30. But then, the team for the white ball formats remains to be chosen. Now, according to a report in Times of India, both teams would be selected on the second day of the Guwahati Test on Sunday.

No Shubman Gill in ODIs and T20Is?

The report further said that chief selector Ajit Agarkar, RP Singh and Devajit Saikia would meet in Guwahati to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, what could make their task difficult is that some of the senior players might not be available for selection – Hardik Pandya might still not be fit, just like Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill.

Pandya has been out since the Asia Cup, Iyer was injured in Australia, while Gill suffered a neck injury in Kolkata which was a big blow for the Indian team.

No Shubman Gill in ODIs

As far as Shubman Gill is concerned, he is definitely out of the SA series. Another report from TOI suggests that Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala has advised the ODI skipper to take more rest but he will be fit in time for the T20Is. “Unfortunately, Gill will not be available for selection for the three ODIs against South Africa. Specialists have advised him more rest and continues to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” a BCCI official said.

Let’s talk about potential teams. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would definitely be there for the ODIs. In Shubman’s absence, KL Rahul emerges as the potential skipper, or Rohit could well return as skipper for this series alone. Rishabh Pant could become the second keeper, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj as the pacers. Considering Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, he may not make the ODI squad.

As for the T20I team, it could remain largely the same as the previous AUS series. Suryakumar Yadav would of course lead, with Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma as the two keepers. If Shubman Gill is still not fit, it could pave the way for someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal; but again, his place in the XI may not be guaranteed. Sanju might just be elevated to the opening role again.
