India targets 40 markets to counter 48 $ BN Impact American price on textile exports

The center will unroll an awareness program in the main textile hubs around the world to amortize the price of 50% American prices. The priority markets include the United Kingdom, Japan and South Korea, where India aims to strengthen its presence of textile export. The plan occurs while exporters are preparing for losses, with more than $ 48 billion in commerce exposed to steep American tasks which entered into force on August 27.

The India textile and clothing sector, worth $ 179 billion in 2024-25, depends on $ 37 billion in exports. However, despite a global market for textile imports exceeding $ 800 billion, India only commands a 4.1%share, which placing it sixth among exporters.

The new awareness of 40 countries seeks to increase this part in traditional and new destinations. Collectively, these countries import $ 590 billion in textiles and clothing, offering a range to Indian suppliers, who currently meet 5 to 6% of this request.

In each market, India will highlight its position as a “reliable source of quality, sustainable and innovative textiles”, according to officials. The initiative will be coordinated by export promotion councils (EPC) and Indian missions, connecting national clusters such as Surat, Panipat, Tirupur and Bhadohi with global buyers.

The EPCs will trace the demand models, will identify the ranges of high growth products and ensure the presence of India in fairs and exhibitions. They will also support exporters in the use of free trade agreements (ALF), by meeting sustainability standards and acquiring global certifications.
