Adding salt to the wound, the Indian cricket team was fined for maintaining a slow pace during the 2nd IND vs SA ODI in Raipur.
India cricket team have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow-over rate in the IND vs SA 2nd T20i in Raipur. The Men in Blue were handed a 4-wicket thrashing by the Proteas in the contest as the visitors managed to chase down a record 359-run total. KL Rahul and co. were put on the backfoot in the game as they lost the toss for the 20th consecutive time and were tormented by the dew factor.
India fined for slow-over rate
As per a press release issued by the ICC, a sanction has been imposed on India for falling two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. India captain Rahul pleaded guilty to the offence and did not appeal. Players have been fined 5% of their match fees for every over that the side failed to bowl in the allotted time.
“Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after KL Rahul’s side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” the press release stated.
What happened in IND vs SA 2nd ODI?
There was a stage when SA were 317/5 and 322/6, but the Indian bowlers just could not close the match. While the dew factor was a huge setback for India and the ball was changed four times, under the lights, the poor show by the Indian bowlers was the primary reason for india’s defeat.
Harshit Rana was good in patches, but could only return with figures of 1/70 eventually. Prasidh Krishna was far from being decent, getting 2/82 in 8.2 overs, and Kuldeep Yadav was bad too, at 1/78. The best among the lot was Arshdeep Singh, who got 2/54, which too wasn’t good enough. Aiden Markram (110), Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54) were particularly good in exploiting the ‘dew’ conditions.
Nonetheless, the efforts of Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad went in vain; the duo scored 53rd and 1st ton, respectively. But the bowlers could not take the team to the finish line.
