‘I’m back’: Heavyweight champ who lost to Tyson Fury says ‘no one is safe’ ahead of return

One of Tyson Fury’s former foes has apparently put the rest of the heavyweight division on notice.

Fury’s status is currently up in the air. He retired from the sport in January after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, although there are widespread rumors that ‘The Gypsy King’ is set to return in 2026 ahead of a potential meeting with long-time rival Anthony Joshua.

Another major rival of Fury’s in boxing is former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who took part in an epic trilogy with the Briton between 2018 and 2021.

The first clash ended in a controversial split decision draw, but the second and third meetings were knockout victories for Fury, which marked the start of a poor run of form for Wilder.

Further defeats followed Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, making it four defeats in five fights, although “The Bronze Bomber” returned to winning ways in June when he stopped Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round.

Recently, Wilder has been linked with a shock clash against current heavyweight king Usyk, but a clash against compatriot Derek Chisora has also been touted.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Wilder said “no one is safe” ahead of his return and appeared to suggest he would be happy to face Chisora after the pair came face to face earlier this month.

“It’s the business of combat. No one is safe, do you understand me?

No one is safe in the field of combat. You never know who wants to pick a bone with you. I’ve known Derek for a long time. I know how he’s doing, so I know what’s going on.

When he came to me, it was like a challenge. We are like two gorillas beating each other’s chests. Two alphas who want to fight each other, that’s how it is.

I’m different, everyone thinks I’m done or it’s over for me, but they don’t understand what I had to go through. I’m back, it’s a new me.

Fury himself recently gave his views on what he thinks about a potential fight between his old rivals Wilder and Usyk.
