The Rays of Tampa Bay will compete for a scan of the three-game series well necessary Sunday afternoon during their visit to the Nationals in Washington.
Tampa Bay is looking to gain ground in the American league joker race. Monday’s rays will start a seven -game section against the teams in front of them in the ranking.
The left-handed left of Tampa Bay, Ian Seymour (2-0, 3.18 ERA) will start on Sunday opposite Washington right-hander Brad Lord (4-7, 3.84).
Seymour, 26, will make his second career start after 12 relief appearances. He gave a safe blow and a walk while withdrawing eight in five-sleeves aimlessly during a 9-0 victory against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
“I don’t know if I could have written it better in terms of order and execution,” said Seymour. “I was quite happy with that.”
Lord joined the Nationals rotation in July and went 2-1 with an MPM of 3.45 during his first six departures, with Washington from 5-1. However, he had a hard time getting out the last time, granting seven points (six deserved) at eight strokes in 4 1/3 sleeves in a defeat of 10-5 against New York Yankees on Monday.
“Good strikers like that, they don’t miss too many error grounds,” said Lord. “In the fifth round, I left some too much locations at the heart of the plate. They were able to make a good contact and made me pay.”
Lord and Seymour have not yet faced the respective opposition in their careers.
Josh Lowe dominated twice and rolled in four points and Ryan Pepiot launched five sleeves aimlessly to punctuate the Rays to a 4-1 victory against the Nationals on Saturday.
Lowe has safely struck in six of his last eight games, hitting .323 (10 for 31) with seven points.
“I think he must have a good month,” said Rays manager Kevin Cash. “And I know he’s going in the form of himself to do it. So, it’s going to get the most out of opportunities this last month. We will see what’s going on.”
James Wood had a simple RBI and a walk on Saturday for the Nationals, who lost seven games in a row while being exceeded 43-16. Wood has safely struck in eight of his last 10 games and Bat .316 (12 for 38) with four doubles, one home run, four products produced, six goals on balls and two points in this section.
Also on Saturday, the Nationals placed the left -hander Mackenzie Gore on the 15 -day injured list (retroactive to Wednesday) with inflammation in his shoulder.
Gore is 1-5 with an MPM of 7.54 since the summer break. The 26-year-old was appointed to his first star team in July after spending 4-8 with a 3.02 MPM.
“It’s something as I felt my last start, we had to get an MRI,” said Gore. “Nothing crazy has manifested itself as an important injury. I didn’t want to (go on it), but we somehow need it. I plan to be back as soon as possible. We just need to clean up a few things in there, and we should go well.”
