I moved to the United Kingdom because of Donald Trump

The actor and host told a crowd in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, that life “is just better” in the United Kingdom.
Ellen said that she and her wife Portia de Rossi planned to marry again in England after a few movements in the United States to reverse the law of gay marriage, and that America can always be “frightening for people who they are”.
She also discussed the allegations of a toxic workplace which led to the end of her longtime discussion program in 2022, admitting that she could be “very frank”, but rejected stories like “Clickbait”.
‘We stay here’
Ellen has been one of the biggest names in American television for 30 years, thanks to her day discussion salon, as well as for her eponymous sitcom in the 1990s, for welcoming the Oscars, the Grammys and the Emmys, and for having expressed Dory in Finding Nemo.
After the cancellation of her talk-show, she made a “last stand-up tour” in the United States 2024, then bought a house in the Cotswolds, a historic and picturesque area mainly covering parts of the Gloucestershire and the Oxfordshire.
On Sunday at the Théâtre de All LesManes de Cheltenham, she was in conversation with the broadcaster Richard Bacon, who asked if information that she had moved because of Donald Trump was right. “Yes,” she replied.
The 67-year-old said that she and of Rossi initially planned to spend three or four months a year in the United Kingdom and bought what they thought was “a part-time house”.
“We arrived here the day before the elections and we woke up with many texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I said to myself:” He entered “”, she said. “And we say to ourselves:” We stay here “.”

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We are just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. Villages and cities and architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler lifestyle.
“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I love it here.
“We moved here in November, which was not the ideal moment, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia stole her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
Being gay in Hollywood “is always a problem”
During her last tour, she joked saying that she had been “expelled from the show twice” – the first time, when she released gay in 1997.
This actually led to the end of its sitcom after advertisers withdrew and the network has stopped promoting it, she told the Cheltenham crowd on Sunday.
Bacon asked if his visibility had encouraged other people to get out. “I would say no,” she replied. “I imagined that a lot of people came out like Meerkats who came out of a hole and return.” How are you? Ok, no, no. “”
But it is “a really difficult decision” which is not suitable for everyone, she continued and said that things are better today “in some ways” but not the others.
“If it was [better]All these other people who are actors and actresses I know are gay, they would have come out, but they are not, because it is always a problem. People are always afraid. “”
Getty imagesEllen also referred to a recent decision of the Baptist Convention on the South to approve the overthrow of a Supreme Court case allowing homosexual marriage. At least nine legislatures of the States presented bills to do the same.
“The Baptist church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,” she said. “They try to literally prevent him from performing in the future and perhaps reverse him. Portia and I are already examining it, and if they do it, we are going to get married here.”
Later, in response to a question from the public, she added: “I want us to be in a place where it was not frightening that people are who they are. I want us to live in a society where everyone could accept others and their differences.
“So, until we are there, I think there is a difficult place to say that we have enormous progress.”
However, the young generation is “more comfortable with it” and is “just a little fluid,” she added. “So I think the young generation will show us the way.”
“Does the forehead mean I mean?”
After some former workers of his talk show have allegations of a toxic work culture, the star – who finished each episode by telling viewers to “be nice with each other” – was nicknamed “nasty” in the media.
After the scandal, three producers were dismissed in the midst of allegations of misconduct and sexual harassment, and the last season of the show opened its doors with Ellen giving an air.
She tackled this in her tour in 2024 and the stand-up special Netflix that accompanies her.
“No matter what, any article that appeared, it was like” she is nasty “, and it is like, how can I manage this without looking like a victim or a” poor “or to complain? But I wanted to remedy it.
“It’s as simple as, I am a direct person, and I am very frank, and I suppose that sometimes it means that … I am mean?”
She also said that it was “a little crazy” that saying someone is mean “maybe the worst thing you say about a woman”.
“How do we dare to have a kind of mood, or you can be nothing other than kind and gentle and kind and submissive and complacent.”
She added: “I don’t think I can say everything that will ever get rid of it [reputation] Or dissipate it, which hurts me. I hate that. I hate people think I am that because I know who I am and I know that I am an empathetic and compassionate person. “”
It was “certainly an unpleasant way to finish” her talk show, she said.
“Would like” a British talk show
Ellen said she was missing “a lot” on her show, but does not think that a similar format would work more.
“I mean, I want it to be doing it, because I would do the same thing here. I would like to start again, but I just have the impression that people watch on their phone, or people are not really paying attention to televisions, because we are so flooded with information and entertainment.”
She said that she didn’t know what she would do in the future, but would choose her next move “very carefully”.
“I don’t know what it is yet,” she said. “I want to have fun, I want to do something. I like my chickens but I bored a little.”
