“I am sure …”: the former president of the BCCI, Surav Ganguly, reacts to the suspension of IPL 2025 in the middle of the Indian-Pakistani tension

Surav Ganguly, former Capain India and also former president of the BCCI, reacted to the suspension of the Indian Premier 2025. In particular, the tournament was interrupted in mid-season while the tensions between India and Pakistan continue to degenerate after operation Sindoor. The match between the kings of Punjab and the Delhi capitals was abandoned halfway for security reasons on Thursday and the next day saw the event suspended for seven days. Ganguly showed his belief in the BCCI and said the board of directors would end the tournament.

“I saw today that the IPL is suspended for 7 days. The BCCI will finish this. BCCI is effective. During the Coide, it was another emergency. I am sure that the BCCI will finish it,” Ganguly told India Today.

In particular, it was not the first IPL season that was interrupted halfway. Also in 2021, the tournament was postponed due to the COVVI-19 threat to India. The edition resumed and was completed four months later in the United Arab Emirates.

“A denominational situation is different. BCCI will work in accordance with the directives of the Indian government,” said Ganguly.

“The Jawans are our pride not because of the war but what they are doing day after day. We are here at peace for them,” he added.

Friday, the BCCI confirmed that the IPL 2025 had been suspended with immediate effect, although for a week following the Indian-Pakistani border tensions. The Board of Directors added that the new calendar and the site of the tournament will be announced in time after evaluating the situation.

“Other updates concerning the new calendar and the new places in the tournament will be announced in due course after a complete assessment of the situation in consultation with the authorities and the stakeholders concerned,” said BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, in an official statement.

On Friday, the decision was made by the BCCI after cross -border tensions intensified Thursday evening, leading to Panus breakdowns in Jammu, Udhampur and Pathankot, while air strikes and Pakistan drones resumed the sky. This led the match between the kings of Punjab and the capitals of Delhi canceled at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala after 10.1 overs of the first heats were completed.

With the closure of Dharamshala airport and other cities in northern India, players and DC support staff, as well as match officials, commentators, distribution crew members and other key members linked to IPL were evacuated from Dharamshala by a bus that took them to Jalandhar on Friday morning.

The BCCI also declared that the decision had been taken by the IPL board of directors, including the president of Saikia and IPL, Arun Dhumal, after consulting all the key stakeholders following representations of most of the franchisees, who transmitted the concern and the feelings of their players as well as the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans.
