The move up from the Asian Tour’s International Series to LIV Golf has become easier, according to reports published Friday by several U.K.-based golf media outlets.

LIV Golf officials have reportedly decided to guarantee places on its tour to the two top points scorers in the 2025 International Series who are not already part of LIV.

Previously, LIV Golf only promised tour status to the top two in the International Series points standings. So when LIV mainstay Joaquin Niemann collected the most points in the International Series last year, only one golfer was given the green light to join LIV.

LIV’s new rules are seen as an offer to the Official World Golf Rank board. That group, whose members draw from the PGA Tour, European Tour and other long-standing entities in the sport, has not yet authorized LIV Golf events to take into account OWGR calculations that are used, among other things, to determine which golfers are invited to major tournaments.

By allowing more Asian Tour International Series competitors to become LIV qualifiers, LIV officials hope their tour will seem more open, legitimate and worthy of OWGR points.

The International Series is a 10-event competition featuring players from the Asian Tour and LIV. The Link Hong Kong Open, the eighth of 10 tournaments on this year’s schedule, is underway.

Heading into the Hong Kong tournament, Zimbabwean Scott Vincent and Filipino Miguel Tabuena are the top two non-LIV players in the International Series points standings. Vincent ranks No. 152 in the latest OWGR list while Tabuena ranks 251st.

Vincent qualified for his first US Open this year and missed the cut at Oakmont Country Club by 2 shots. He has only played in one other major, when he missed the cut at the 2022 Open Championship.

Tabuena failed to qualify for the 2016 US Open.
