Newcastle United keen to sign Real Betis star Lo Celso

Newcastle United are looking for reinforcements for the January transfer window and the player on their radar is Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso, according to Fichajes.

Lo Celso’s future looks increasingly uncertain as the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder continues to struggle for consistency in La Liga, sparking further speculation over a potential return to the Premier League.

The Argentine playmaker, once considered one of the most technically gifted midfielders in South America, has had a difficult campaign so far, scoring just one goal in 13 league appearances.

Despite his disappointing results this season, Lo Celso’s underlying qualities remain widely admired across Europe.

Newcastle United ready for January signing

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is looking to add new players in the January transfer window to add depth and quality to his squad.

Lo Celso could be available for around €25m (£22m), a figure many players would consider modest given his pedigree and international experience.

For Newcastle, who are looking to add creativity and depth to their midfield without falling foul of financial regulations, the Argentine could represent a bargain, provided they can rediscover the version of Lo Celso who lit up Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and showed flashes of brilliance at Tottenham.

During his time in north London, Lo Celso never really established himself as a guaranteed starter, often vacillating between impressive performances and long periods of injury or loss of form.

From Newcastle’s point of view, this makes any decision a calculated risk. Howe’s side have already invested heavily in midfield over the past few windows and cannot afford another high-profile signing who fails to make a lasting impact.

Although Lo Celso is a short-term solution for the Newcastle United midfielder, it is still a move with risks and one that Howe and his recruitment team should avoid at this stage.

More than the midfield, they need additions in the defensive department, especially after injuries to Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Emil Krafth and others.
