Hope given with a possible next manager

It’s no secret that Ruben Amorim is under pressure at Man United, although he is expected to remain manager for now. Nonetheless, he could be sacked if there is not a spark of recovery in form over the coming weeks, leading to links with senior managers.

Oliver Glasner is among those to have attracted interest from Old Trafford, and the Crystal Palace manager is also said to be keen to succeed Amorim. And this point has now been hammered home.

Insider hints at Oliver Glasner being unhappy at Crystal Palace

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown suggested that Glasner is not very happy at Crystal Palace, although Steve Parish recently confirmed that the German is in talks over a new contract.

“We all know Palace want to keep Glasner. The way the chairman phrased it – ‘our positions need to be aligned’ – I read there that the manager is demanding things that the club hasn’t necessarily done. He wants to keep his best players and wants the board to complement that by adding more depth and more quality to the transfer market.

“It’s about testing the hierarchy at Palace, assessing their ambitions and seeing if they are prepared to give him what he needs to continue on this journey. Very often, in my experience, owners and chairmen can be too focused on making a profit and prioritizing finances rather than the ambitions of the club.

“If that is the case here, it is unlikely that the manager will want to stay, as he will not be able to keep up with the ambitions and progress he wants to make. If he then gets the opportunity to join a club that could match his aspirations, then they could not blame him if they were not willing to do so.

But ultimately it’s up to Palace, it’s a test of their ambitions, and if they want to keep Glasner they have to give him what he wants and that’s support in the transfer market.

It remains to be seen how Glasner’s situation will evolve in the coming weeks/months. He may be in the running to become Man United’s next manager, but for now he’s staying at Crystal Palace.
